Beschreibung:

Hygrophila ringens (L.) R.Br. ex Steudel belonging to Acanthaceae family has been investigated for isolation of its secondary metabolites and evaluation of biological activities of crude extractives with special emphasis to the analgesic activity, hypoglycemic activity, antioxidant activity, Brine shrimp lethality bioassay and antimicrobial study. One compound has been isolated which was identified by extensive analyses of high resolution 1H-NMR spectroscopic data. The methanolic crude extract at a dose of 100 &200 mg/kg body weight and ethyl acetate fraction at a dose of 100 & 200mg/kg body weight of Hygrophila ringens showed promising analgesic activity of 61.58%, 67.23% and 59.89%,64.41% of inhibition respectively compared to the standard (76.84%).In the brine shrimp lethality bioassay, Methanolic crude extract and ethyl acetate fraction of leaves of Hygrophila ringens exhibited potent cytotoxicity with the LC50 values of 1.931 g/ml , 4.454 g/ml and pet ether (9.099 g/ml) and carbon tetrachloride (11.390 g/ml), fractions showed moderate cytotoxicity respectively compared to Vincristine Sulphate (LC50 value 0.824 g/ml).
