The Konso who live in a difficult environmental condition are among the many agricultural societies of Ethiopia. Since the existing awkward environment is so degraded and fragmented, people are pushed to move and search for better agricultural land. Competition over the scarce and nearly exhausted natural resource coupled with huge population explosion is triggering disputes and bloody conflicts. The land of Konso has experienced many bloody conflicts both within and among other neighboring communities. These conflicts have claimed many lives, damaged many hectare of crops, and houses were burnt. The existing indigenous cultural institutions are doing a remarkable works in mediating and transforming the conflicts. This study unveiled scenarios which are happening in the land of Konso and argues for better support and assistance for the indigenous authorities. Peace is an indispensible pillar to plan, implement and sustain any development endeavors. The study tried to furnish a remedial in enhancing the degraded and endangered environment. It also rendered ideas about how to synchronize the existing indigenous institutions with the modern ones.
